On 30 August 2019, upon the invitation of Prof. Jan Wouters and Dr. Axel Marx from the Leuven Centre for Global Governance Studies (GGS), Prof. Yuwen Li attended the International Conference: Rethinking Global Governance in Trade and Investment: Global Perspectives, in Brussels, Belgium.
Prof. Yuwen Li gave her speech on China’s policy and its recent institutional innovations on the reform of ISDS, mostly notably, regarding China’s international commercial courts, China’s policy paper on ISDS reform submitted to the UNCITRAL Working Group III in July 2019, and challenges of ISDS in the context of the Belt and Road Initiative.
The conference focused on the ongoing reform of both the World Trade Organization (WTO) and ISDS. Participants included academics, experts and policymakers from developing countries, the EU, European countries, as well as students from the Euro-Asia summer school. Dr. Cheng Bian, academic researcher from the ECLC, also participated the conference.
