On 7 November 2019, upon the invitation of Prof. Yuwen Li, the director of Erasmus China Law Centre, Erasmus School of Law (ESL), Erasmus University Rotterdam, Prof. Thom Brooks, Professor of Law and Government, Dean of Durham Law School, Durham University, visited Erasmus School of Law and gave a lecture on Issues of Brexit and Challenges in Legal Education.
Welcomed by Prof. Yuwen Li, Prof. Brooks in his lecture focused on the discussion of the reasons why Brexit talks have gone badly for the UK in the past, and what future prospect would be for the Brexit. In addition, Prof. Brooks addressed challenges faced by law schools nowadays in the context of the rising demand for global lawyers capable of practising in multiple jurisdictions.
Prof. Brooks also had a meeting with Prof. Suzan Stoter, Dean of Erasmus School of Law, and discussed the opportunity for future cooperation in legal research and education, as well as an exchange of students and researchers, between the two law schools under the framework of APELIA.
