This internship has given me real-world exposure to the fashion industry, the workings of a company, and an opportunity to network with like-minded individuals!

An Tran did her internship at Blond Model Management in Breda
Blond Model Management is a creative model agency. My role in the organization was that of Junior Booker, and I was part of the marketing and communication team. My main tasks were to proceed with the model booking request from clients and be responsible for supporting our model work. I have also had the chance to be part of project campaigns, fashion events, and to help develop a marketing strategy for branding the company in this competitive market.
In a model agency, every day is a new day since you do not know in advance what's going to arrive in your mailbox, what kind of clients you have, how you have to support your models, and how to maintain good relations with other stakeholders. I have learned a lot about working at a fast pace with high demand for creativity and working well with a lot of people in this competitive industry. And working in a young company also allowed me to work closely with the management to observe more about business administration. In a company whose main product is people (models), it is tough to have control of a 100% like you would have with other products. You have to maintain a good management strategy but also need room for flexibility.
I really wanted to work in the fashion or creative industry during my internship. I started with my search on LinkedIn, and I have also looked at many platforms specialized in the creative and cultural sector. Ultimately, I found my internship vacancy on the platform Fashion United, a well-known worldwide place for fashion vacancies.
In my studies, I have had many courses and workshops about the art and culture industries in many aspects like sociology, economics, marketing, etc. All of these course gave me a theoretical approach to the industry. During my internship I have seen the practical side of it, in real life. Actually, the workshop about Management in Arts & Culture provided me with a wide range of knowledge that I could apply in this internship.
This internship has allowed me to gain more valuable insight into the fashion industry. Before the internship, I had no clue and was uncertain how the fashion industry works and how I could be involved. Thanks to this opportunity, I have discovered that my personality and abilities match this field, and I am more confident to step into it. I want to stick with this field in my future career. There is plenty of room to work creatively and collaborate with people.
To the students looking for an internship next year, I would like to say: you only know what you are good at only when you try it. Finding an internship is hard, but once you have your own chance to practice your knowledge, be eager to learn, make mistakes since you’ll actually learn more from mistakes than from success, and actively look for opportunities with people to build a network for your future.
