Mark Straver (1990) is a PhD-candidate who researches the Dutch shipbuilding industry in the Netherlands between 1945 and 1983. His research aims to explain the economic rise and decline of Dutch shipyards in a period of increasing international competition and changing industry structures. The topic pays special attention to the internal capabilities of shipyards and the relationships of shipyards with related industries such as shipping and the maritime supply industry.
In addition to his research, Mark Straver is a lecturer at the Erasmus University Rotterdam and is involved in various courses in the Bachelor and Master programme. Together with Els Jacobs, he supervises Master students who write their thesis on maritime history in the Research Workshop Maritime History and Port Cities.
Mark Straver holds Master degrees in History, Finance and Financial Law (2015) from Erasmus University Rotterdam. His main research interests include business history, maritime history, economic history and financial history.
