Courses within the curriculum
From 4 July until 1 October 2023, the PAC organizes a pop-up exhibition at the 8th floor of the Van der Goot building at Erasmus campus Woudestein. The exhibition brings together six Media and Communications courses that connect course work to the professional field in an inspiring way. Head of Department Erik Hitters officially opened the exhibition on the 4th of July 2023.
Next to the courses now present in the exhibition, the Media & Communication department offers more excellent courses which connect to the professional field. The aim is to put new courses into the spotlight at the end of each academic year from now on.

The internship
In Term 4 (April to June) of each academic year, all second year Media & Communication students are doing an internship as part of their curriculum. This internship serves as an opportunity to gain work experience and helps students understand how they can put the theory they have learned into practice.
Every year we have a total of 250 to 300 IBCoM students that need to do an internship. The students are interning in a variety of fields, such as marketing, management, corporate communications, public relations, internal communications, government, public affairs, education, journalism, the media and entertainments industries or the arts etc. Popular companies to intern at are, for example, Unilever, Candid, G-star RAW, Signify, NPO, Justice and Peace and many more.
Most of the students perform well during the internship. Each year, several students make such a positive impact that they are offered a job after the internship is finished. The internship is a unique opportunity within our programs. The experience eases the transition from studying to the job market and is evaluated very positively in all student and alumni surveys.
Are you working in an organization or company which would like to participate in our internship program by hosting one or more students for a work placement? Or do you have contacts at companies or organizations interested in hiring an intern? Please have a look at this webpage.
IBCoM’s Honours programme
The IBCoM Honours Programme gives ambitious students access to opportunities and challenges beyond the normal scope of the undergraduate program. Honours students are exposed to the most recent developments in communication and media studies, go on fieldtrips, work on challenges and get networking opportunities with professionals from the media and communication field. Students’ own contribution in the HP’s curriculum—through engagement in interactive sessions, presentation of their own work, portfolio assignments and the organization of the Honours Alliance networking event and Honours Symposium —further enables them to actively explore new areas of interest.
Each year the honours students work on a storytelling challenge for an organization in Rotterdam. By bridging the gap between academic literature, insights from marketing, communication and storytelling and more practical organizational challenges and constraints, they train their creativity and flexibility to solve issues in the professional field in innovative ways. The students of the honours programme have worked on challenges of, amongst others, the Rotterdam Philharmonic, Rotterdam Partners and CIC Rotterdam.

Coopr Academy
Another good example of collaborating with the professional field is the Practical Honours Programme; Coopr Academy. For this program 10 Bachelor and Master students from the Media & Communication program are selected to work on a Practical Case Project provided by PR & Communication agency Coopr. During the academy Coopr organizes five interactive sessions in which students learn all the ins-and- outs of PR, corporate communication, and content marketing. At the same time students work on a real-life case study in which they pitch a PR strategy for one of Coopr’s clients.
You can read more about the Coopr on this student led blog.
