Be competitive, the industry says! But what does competitiveness in the media and film industry mean? The REBOOT (REviving, BOsting, Optimising and Transforming European Film Competitiveness) project aims to give a unified answer to this question. Through a 3-year project funded by Horizon Europe (2023-2026), researchers, scholars, and experts in the field aim to connect the existing strengths of the European Film Industry, identify and overcome weaknesses, and plan for future competitiveness in the fields of policy, practice and experience. Dr. Mafalda Damaso will coordinate the project from the Erasmus University Rotterdam.

REBOOT will explore the media and film industry to get the necessary answers on diachronic understandings of the ‘competitiveness’ and of the ‘European’ in European Film Industry. It will look at the institutional context of the European film industry, will work on the framings and strategies of cinema professionals and will contribute to the building of future competitiveness.

“One of the most important outcomes of REBOOT is the promotion of European cultural activity and cultural diversity by raising new knowledge on the needs and development of the European filmmaking industry.” - Prof. Katharine Sarikakis
