It’s titled "Look what you made them do: understanding fans’ affective responses to Taylor Swift’s political coming-out”. In this contribution Simone discusses how fans make sense of Taylor Swift’s versatile and constantly changing celebrity identity.
With Swift being one of the most influential artists of today’s music industry, Simone finds that it’s very relevant to study her celebrity persona and how people respond to this. Particularly because she turned from non-political, to political, to indie-artist with her latest albums.
This contribution discusses how fans make sense of Taylor Swift’s versatile and constantly changing celebrity identity. More precisely, it examines how fans negotiate her post-Reputation political revelations and expressions. This piece does so through the lens of her fandom, particularly by looking at what happens when fans’ perceptions are tested. By doing so, this piece aims to offer an insight into how fans respond to Swift when their understanding of Swift’s celebrity persona becomes contested.
