In 2025, researchers at Erasmus University Rotterdam (EUR) who are funded by NWO or ZonMw can publish free of charge in seven open access journals from PLOS. This is thanks to a new national agreement, even though EUR itself is not a participating institution. The Library supports researchers in making use of this opportunity.
Starting 1 January 2025, a new national open access agreement takes effect between the Public Library of Science (PLOS) and more than thirty Dutch research institutions. Although Erasmus University Rotterdam (EUR) is not among the participating institutions, the agreement is still relevant for EUR researchers who are funded by the Dutch Research Council (NWO) or the Netherlands Organisation for Health Research and Development (ZonMw).
Under this two-year agreement, NWO and ZonMw will fully cover the Article Processing Charges (APCs) for publications arising from their funded projects in seven PLOS journals, including PLOS ONE, PLOS Genetics, and PLOS Computational Biology. This means that EUR-affiliated researchers with NWO or ZonMw funding can publish open access in these PLOS journals without any personal cost, provided they correctly acknowledge the funding source in their publication.
