Ning Hong is studying the concept of audience in art exhibitions, which includes audiences' engagement as part of the artworks—focusing on audience involvement, individual experiences, and visualization. She started her Ph.D. trajectory this April at ESHCC when she was granted a national Ph.D. scholarship from Taiwan government for studying abroad. Ning is supervised by Professor Koen van Eijck and Dr Michaël Berghman.
Before relocating to the Netherlands, Ning was curious how individuals experience visual arts as she has been involved in the field of visual arts through different strategies and perspectives. For her, it is essential and inspiring to collaborate with people who work in various roles in the cultural sector. Ning’s former research and articles were related to zine culture in Taiwan for the last decade, the working memory in art institutions, and the collaboration between the arts education field and contemporary art. She obtained her bachelor's from the Fine Art Department atthe National Taiwan Normal University and continued with a master’s in Art Administration and Management at Taipei National University of the Arts in 2014.
Outside of the research context, the first time she could call the Netherlands her new home was in Maastricht in 2017 This was when Ning joined Jan van Eyck Academie via an exchange program and experienced her first snowfall and tasty rinse appelstroop. Daily, she loves to do artwork related to individuals' art-class memories, give workshops, and write. Apart from that, she kept exploring topics around the public place and a sense of security with friends in a humorous tone these years after experiencing an escape in 2019 at Borough Market.
In her spare time, Ning loves to cook, write calligraphy, and visit places. To relax, she likes going to a cafe, walking with friends, and staring at passengers' dogs.
