On Thursday 23 January, Dr Mariangela Lavanga (Arts and Culture department) and Dr Luuc Brans (Media and Communication Department) of ESHCC will lead an engaging discussion on the present and future of fashion at CultureHub in Rotterdam Delfshaven. Rethink Apparel (Erasmus University Rotterdam), International Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR) and CultureHub put together a programme where cinema, fashion sustainability and academia meet.
Have you ever wondered what happens to your clothes after you donate them? The eye-opening short documentary Goodwill Dumping (2019) uncovers the hidden process behind clothing collection and exposes a global waste problem. Following the screening of this film, Dr Lavanga and Dr Brans lead a talk and Q&A which aims to make us question our fashion choices and general lifestyle as consumers.
About Rethink Apparel
Rethink Apparel (RA) is the fashion pillar of Erasmus Sustainability Hub, a wave of conscientious students and faculty of Erasmus University Rotterdam embracing a shared responsibility to integrate sustainability into their daily lives. RA is an initiative that aims to raise awareness about the need for environmental and social sustainability within the fashion industry. They host monthly clothing swaps to combat fashion waste in students’ wardrobes and create a big shared wardrobe in the community. They also host other events such as fashion shows, exhibitions, Fashion Revolution Week, and more.
Dr Mariangela Lavanga will also share insights from the Horizon Europe project FABRIX (Fostering local, beautiful, and sustainably designed regenerative textile and clothing ecosystems) and its call for funding for facilitators in Rotterdam and Athens (financial support of 25.000€ for two facilitators in each city, deadline 4 February).
