Erasmus University Rotterdam has been recognized as a “key innovator”, thanks to Jason Pridmore’s concluded Horizon project called ‘Ashvin’. This innovating project produced a safety management dashboard for construction projects ensuring individual worker privacy through data aggregation and edge computing of processing of IoT (Internet of Things) data.

The Ashvin project was assessed by the JRC’s Market Creation Potential Indicator (European Union framework) as having a “High” level of Market Creation Potential. Only innovations that are showing multiple signals of market creation potential are assigned a value under this indicator system.

Ashvin seeks to enhance productivity, reduce costs, and improve safety in the European construction industry by creating a European-wide digital twin standard and an open-source platform that integrates IoT (Internet of Things) and image technologies. This platform will provide a real-time digital representation of construction processes, monitoring changes throughout the project's lifecycle. Ashvin aims to improve scheduling forecasts by 20%, optimize resource use, and reduce accidents. The project will address worker protection, privacy concerns, and integrate various data types for simulations. Its innovations will be tested on 10 real-world construction sites across Europe by a consortium of experts from 11 EU member states.
