On November 23, 2023, the National Expertise Centre for Discrimination (LECD) hosted a symposium themed ‘Criminal Law and Discrimination’ to mark its 25th anniversary. ESHCC PhD-candidate and lecturer Jasmin Seijbel was invited to speak about her on-going research into antisemitism in Dutch football. During the symposium Jasmin delivered an in-depth talk titled: ‘From Stadium to Social Media: Antisemitism in Dutch Football Fandom’. During the presentation she explored the complex and nuanced ways in which football-related antisemitic discourse is being (re)produced in online and offline spaces.
The National Expertise Centre for Discrimination (LECD) was established on September 1, 1998, as part of the Public Prosecution Service in the Netherlands. The LECD aims to optimize the effectiveness of criminal justice in combating discrimination. Its work encompasses advising, policy development, investigation, prosecution, and reporting. The symposium organized to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the centre highlighted the latest challenges and advancements in the legal approach to discrimination.
