The University Library has recently made the Central Written Exams (CSE) for the subject of History in the Netherlands, starting from the introduction of the CSE in 1974, available and searchable online
The collection consists of the exam questions, the accompanying source booklet with any other appendices, and the marking scheme. It is now possible to search the entire collection comprehensively, which is a significant advantage for researchers. Some of these files (exams from 2002 onwards) can also be found on the websites of the College voor Toetsen en Examens (College for Tests and Exams), but they are not comprehensively accessible there. The older exams are not available online elsewhere and were provided to the University Library by Cito.
The CSE History collection is part of the History Didactics Collection (HDC) of the University Library. The Historical Didactic Collection is a unique collection with over 6000 titles dedicated to history education in the Netherlands and Europe. Since 2007, it has been built up in collaboration with the Center for Historical Culture (CHC) and contains an extensive collection of didactic works, textbooks, and studies on history education. The HDC is the largest collection of its kind in the Netherlands and forms an essential infrastructure for research into history education and the development of historical consciousness. With the addition of the CSE exams, this valuable research collection is further enriched and made more accessible to researchers, teachers, and other interested parties.
