Teresa Bazarra Urquidi, a master’s student in Arts, Culture and Society at Erasmus University Rotterdam, has received an Erasmus Trustfonds Scholarship. This scholarship plays a crucial role in her academic journey. For Teresa, who previously studied Journalism and Humanities at Carlos III University of Madrid, combining art, culture, and society is a driving force.
Before starting her master’s, Teresa worked as a cultural manager for a theater company, a journalist at a radio station, and a consultant at a creative agency. In 2023, she launched a cultural newsletter featuring accessible and engaging cultural events in Madrid. “I realized then that I wanted to dedicate my career and time to bringing art and culture closer to people. Whenever I step into a museum, a bookstore, or a library, I immediately feel at home and safe. I want to create spaces that feel like a kind of refuge for me and others.”
Her choice to study in Rotterdam was driven by the international environment and the interdisciplinary nature of the programme. “In Spain, an interdisciplinary approach is not very common in postgraduate programmes in cultural management,” Teresa explains. While applying for the programme felt like a natural step, financing her studies was uncertain. “I applied for a scholarship, but I didn’t think I had much of a chance. When I received an email two months later saying my scholarship had been approved, I couldn’t believe it. It was even better news than being accepted into the master’s itself!”
Teresa is also participating in the Erasmus Charity Run to raise awareness about the importance of scholarships like those provided by the Erasmus Trustfonds. “I want to show where the money goes by giving a voice to the people who receive it.”
