ESHCC alumni 'behind the scenes' at KNMI

Alumni omringen metereoloog in de weerkamer bij het KNMI

On Thursday 29 February, the second "Behind The Scenes" event for alumni of Erasmus School of History, Culture and Communication took place at the Royal Netherlands Meteorological Institute (KNMI). This is the Dutch national weather service.

Eveline Bos, alumna Arts, Culture & Society (2013), warmly welcomed the alumni participants at her employer. Rob Sluijter, programme manager at KNMI, then presented some examples of the changes the institute will be making to its weather warnings and weather forecasts in the near future.

After the presentation, an exclusive visit to the weather room followed. The weather room is available 24/7 to warn people in the Netherlands if dangerous or extreme weather threatens. Here, alumni learned about the extensive process of issuing weather code orange or red. They were also informed about the day-to-day operations of the weather room. There was sufficient time after the visit to enjoy some drinks and snacks, and connect with the fellow alumni participants.

We look back on a successful event. On to the next edition of 'Behind The Scenes' during the Rotterdamse Dakendagen (Rotterdam Rooftop Days)! Keep an eye on the alumni website for updates.

Behind The Scenes

The alumni afternoon at KNMI was the second event in a series of "Behind The Scenes" visits that the faculty is organising in 2023/2024. As faculty, we see that our alumni end up in interesting and inspiring (work)places in society. With the "Behind The Scenes" series, we want to open up these workplaces to fellow alumni to show where other alumni end up, to give a unique insight into the ins and outs of an organisation, and to connect ESHCC alumni from different study programmes.
