Dr. Daniel Trottier, Associate Professor at the Department of Media and Communication, was recently invited to give a talk on his research at the Université du Québec à Montréal (UQAM)’s Laboratoire sur la communication et le numérique. Dr. Trottier's talk was titled "Between social justice and social harm: Digital vigilantism and contemporary visibilty."
The presentation, which took place on 30 October, was followed by commentary by three respondents: Tracey Lauriault (Careleton University), Fenwick McKelvey (Concordia University) and Romuald Jmet (INRS-UCS).
Dr. Trottier's current research considers the use of digital media for the purposes of scrutiny, denunciation and shaming. He is the PI of a five-year NWO-funded project on this topic, entitled “Digital Vigilantism: Mapping the terrain and assessing societal impacts”. He is also participating in a joint NSF/NWO project on mobile privacy, and has previously participated in two European Commission projects on security, privacy and digital media.
