Call for ERMeCC Board Members

ERMeCC is looking for board members who are motivated to contribute to improving and promoting ERMeCC’s role as a centre of expertise and an intellectual network both within and outside our faculty.

The mission of the Erasmus Centre for Media, Communication and Culture is to operate as an international, national and local centre of expertise for high-quality research into the myriad relationships between media, society and culture. ERMeCC provides an intellectual network for researchers, postgraduate students and professionals in the field of media, communication and culture. We seek to generate research in association with societal organizations, media enterprises and public institutions. In addition, we pursue external research funding to support our growth. We organise lectures, seminars and events that are of interest to researchers, professionals and students. Furthermore, we develop and participate in international and national research networks concerned with media, communication and culture.

The Centre is governed by the ERMeCC Board which currently consists of the Academic Director (Prof. Dr. Susanne Janssen), the Managing Director (Dr. Erik Hitters) and three Members (Prof. dr. Stijn Reijnders, Prof. dr. Koen van Eijck and - until 1-9-215-  Dr. Marc Verboord). Everyday management is the responsibility of ERMeCC Management, consisting of the Academic Director and the Managing Director.

We are pursuing further strengthening of our board, as one of the members has recently stepped down. Moreover, membership of ERMeCC is growing, as are the networks we participate in and the range of research themes/topics that are addressed by our researchers. The board has an important function in channeling news, information and ideas from the research “work floor” into the organization, as well as vice versa.

We seek to expand our board with four staff members and two PhD students. We are looking for board members who are motivated to contribute to improving and promoting ERMeCC’s role as a centre of expertise and an intellectual network both within and outside of our faculty. Board members need to be full members or PhD members of our Centre. In addition, we are aiming for a proportional representation of both departments (M&C and ACS) in our board, diversity in research themes, and diversity in terms of international background and gender.

The board meets around four times per year. We expect board members to be present at the board meetings, prepare certain topics for the agenda, initiate and actively engage in ERMeCC related research activities and events.

If you wish to be considered for board membership, please provide a motivation (approx.1 A4), including a brief explanation on what you can contribute as a board member, your views on the development of ERMeCC and the external network that you bring to the board. Selection will be based on the above mentioned criteria. PhD representatives will be selected in conjunction with the ERMeCC PhD Club.

If you are interested, and would like more information about the ERMeCC board, please contact Erik Hitters. Applications can be submitted tomeeuwisse@eshcc.eur.nl by October 26 at the latest.
