This webinar is the first of a webinar series co-organised by the research cluster ROCCS at ERMeCHS of Erasmus University Rotterdam and Bennett University, India.
This webinar series titled 'Digital Dialogues’ aims to broaden students' perspectives by featuring panel discussions that explore the future of key concepts relevant to higher education. The sessions will bring together experts from both India and the Netherlands, offering a truly global perspective. Each webinar will feature a dynamic panel comprising four panellists and two moderators, with the lineup changing to suit the specific topic under discussion. The panels will include a mix of academicians and domain experts, ensuring a well-rounded exploration of each theme.

Shakoor Rather is an award-winning journalist and the Editor-in-Chief of IndiaAI, the national portal for artificial intelligence in India. With over a decade of experience in science and technology journalism, Shakoor has become a leading voice in AI. He oversees editorial content and research, manages the team, and shapes the platform's strategic direction.
Before joining IndiaAI, Shakoor was the Science and Technology Editor at the Press Trust of India (PTI), where he extensively covered key advancements in AI, emerging technologies, and their societal impacts. His in-depth reporting has earned him recognition and numerous awards for his contributions to journalism.
Karnika Kohli
Digital Media Expert & Consultant
Karnika Kohli has over a decade of experience in digital media, having worked with organizations such as The Times of India, The Wire, Scroll.in, and Stck.me. She specializes in audience engagement, building online communities, and developing reader revenue models. Karnika has also taught courses on social media, understanding the Google News algorithm, and digital marketing at the University of Petroleum and Energy Studies. Additionally, she has consulted for newsrooms including The Caravan Magazine, Article 14, and Moneycontrol.
Dr. Selma Toktas
Researcher Media & Communication at ESHCC
Dr. Selma Toktas has 20 years extensive experiences on media and communication area with both academic and professional background such as an editor, coproducer, tv presenter, researcher, and communication specialist. Currently, she works at Erasmus School of History, Culture and Communication as a postdoctoral researcher. Her research interests are mainly in digital transformation, privacy, data security and the political economy of digital technologies to delve into the societal impacts of digital technologies and how these technologies affect data security and privacy. Her main aim is to contribute valuable insights to both academic area and practical life about how digital technologies can work better for the benefit of society.
Dr. Aviv Barnoy
Assistant Professor Media and Communication at ESHCC
Dr. Aviv Barnoy is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Media and Communication at Erasmus University Rotterdam. His interdisciplinary research focuses on the impact of digitalization on communication processes - from journalism to strategic communication. Dr. Barnoy also investigates AI in the context of trust and knowledge, drawing on both social and philosophical frameworks. Dr. Barnoy actively collaborates with a variety of stakeholders, including industry professionals, citizens, and regulators. In this webinar, Dr. Barnoy will examine the role of algorithms in shaping media content, offering insights into their broader implications for communication and society.
