As a student, you can take an elective at another degree programme or another university. In general, you can take an elective inside or outside the Erasmus University without having to pay an additional tuition fee.
- Check the requirements of your own study program to include an elective course in your exam program, for example the level of the course or the number of EC. You can ask your study advisor for advice.
- Check the faculty websites for the possibilities (see links in the left menu). It is possible that requirements are set or that the number of places is limited.
- Once you have made your choice, request permission from your own Examination Board. You need the permission to include the course in your own exam program.
- Contact the faculty of the elective course via the links in the left menu.

- Check the website of the other university to find out more about their registration procedure.
- Once you have made your choice and have checked at the other university whether it is possible to take that course as an elective course, ask permission from the examination board of your own study program. You need that permission to include the course in your exam program.
- Register at the other university according to their registration procedure. You need a proof of tuition fee payment from the EUR.
- Examine the offering through the faculty websites (check out the links in the menu to the side).
- Some faculties will require documents (like a letter of consent from the Examination Board and/or a list of marks) for you to be able to apply for the electives. You can find an overview of the required documents on the faculty website (check out the links in the menu to the side).
- Sign into Studielink for the elective course of the faculty with which you want to take the electives. Search in Studielink for ‘Elective course’.
- Once you've completed your enrolment request in Studielink, you'll receive an e-mail through your ERNA account within 24 hours.
- After receiving this e-mail, go to OSIRIS student via http://sis.eur.nl/student and sign in with your ERNA account.
- Click on 'Case' in OSIRIS, and subsequently hit 'Start a new case'. Select the case 'Requesting elective(s) as a non-EUR student'.
- In the case, you can select the electives that you'd like to take, upload any attachments, and finalise the submission of the request.
- After submitting your case, your request is assessed by the faculty. Please note: you need to go through all the steps for your request to be processed.
- In the meantime, arrange for your Proof of paid tuition fees (BBC). When both universities support the option, you can apply for your BBC via Studielink. If that is not yet possible, you request your BBC from the student administration of your own university. They will send this digitally to our student administration. This will allow you to be exempted from paying tuition fees. (Please note: if you are enrolled as a master student in a funded programme of another institution and want to take up an elective from a bachelor programme with us, you will require an enrolment in a bachelor programme that you've already paid the institutional rate for (you have already achieved your bachelor degree after all). This process can be costly.
- Upload your passport photo through the link you received in your email.
