As of April 1 (midnight) to April 15 (11.59 p.m.) the application process will start for the minor programmes that include an internship abroad. During this period you can apply for one of the following minors:
- Biomedical Research in Practice;
- Digital Medicine;
- Global Health;
- Organ Transplantation: Pushing the Limits;
- Regenerative Medicine.
Although these minors will only be starting by late August, it is not 100% certain whether or not the internships abroad can actually take place, given the current situation surrounding the coronavirus. The coordinators of these five minors of course sincerely hope that the internships can really take place. Should this not be the case, they will do their utter best to offer an appealing, alternative programme.
In case the number of applications for a specific minor will lag behind around April 15, students who have already registered will be notified in time of its cancelation. They can then register for one of the other interesting (deepening or broadening) minors during the regular registration period from May 1-31, 2020. This also applies to students who may not be selected for the minor of their preference.
Minoren met een buitenlandse stage
In December 2019, an outbreak of a new disease was reported in Wuhan, China. This novel coronavirus is also known as Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2). The disease it can cause is called coronavirus disease 2019, abbreviated as COVID-19.
Up till now more than 700,000 persons have been confirmed to be infected (with probably 10-100 times more persons infected really), and more than 33,000 persons have died (mortality rate 4.8%). Most patients have a fever and respiratory symptoms, in some only very mild, in others leading to severe disease with respiratory failure from pneumonia.
Measures are being taken worldwide to prevent the further spread of the novel coronavirus, including closure of schools and universities. And so also Erasmus University Rotterdam, Erasmus MC and Technical University Delft have closed their campus for students and are moving to online Education fully.
Looking at how the pandemic develops, for now we assume that the Minor Global Health can continue as planned, but of course we will keep a very close eye on the developments. This means that you have to register for the Minor Global Health 2020 between 1-15 April 2020 via OSIRIS and via www.eur.nl/minor. Please note that you also need to register and apply via GlobalHealthEducationErasmus (GHEE). So that has not unchanged.
We will have to see if the Kick-off Meetings (11 May 2020) and the Preparation Sessions (May 25-27, and June 15-17) can continue as scheduled or that these need to be rescheduled or changed.
