Erasmus School of Health Policy & Management (ESHPM) launched its investment agenda in 2023, focusing on various themes to address global challenges.
One of these themes is Planetary Health, which targets three main areas:
- reducing healthcare’s negative impact on planetary ecosystems (mitigation) to promote sustainability in healthcare;
- addressing health consequences caused by the triple planetary crisis—climate change, biodiversity loss, and global pollution (adaptation)—through individual, community, and health systems resilience;
- decreasing the impact of health issues on healthcare systems by enhancing prevention and preparedness (healthcare resilience).
'Aligned with these objectives, in October 2025, ESHPM will host the next Planetary Health Annual Meeting (PHAM), the foremost global gathering for academics and stakeholders in planetary health and related fields', shares dr. Chiara Cadeddu. The Rotterdam meeting will focus on transdisciplinarity and actionability, following the previous one held in Malaysia last April with the theme "From Evidence to Action". PHAM 2025 will feature interactive plenaries and diversified parallel sessions, and will highlight the progress of the Planetary Health Roadmap, issued at the end of PHAM 2024, in the five key actions: measuring, communicating, educating, building governance structures, and balancing business with Planetary Health. Additional information and abstract submission opportunities will be available shortly on the event website.
