Can economic theory tell us how to behave? Video interview with EUR philosopher Conrad Heilmann

Conrad Heilmann was included in an interview series that is part of of the 2019 Summer School on “Economic Behaviours: Models, Measurements, and Policies”.

In the interview, Conrad Heilmann answers questions such as: Is the distinction between normative and positive economics still useful? Can economic theory tell us how to behave? Why is economic measurement an interesting topic for philosophers? He also makes the case for economists and philosopher having much to learn from each other when it comes to investigate fairness. 

The Summer School was co-organized by the Lake Como School of Advanced Studies, the International Network of Economic Method (INEM), the University of Insubria, and the University of Milan. In the interview series Francesco Guala has also interviewed the philosophers Anna Alexandrova, Erik Angner, Richard Bradley, Till Grüne-Yanoff, Jaakko Kuorikoski, and David Teira. 

Conrad Heilmann is an is an Associate Professor of Philosophy and Co-Director of the Erasmus Institute for Philosophy and Economics (EIPE). He is also core faculty of the Erasmus Initiative “Dynamics of Inclusive Prosperity”. His research covers a variety of topic in the philosophy of economics.
