Biography

Sandra Sülz received her received her doctoral degree from the University of Cologne, Germany, in 2014.

Her research expertise is in health service operations management (HSOM), which involves applying management science and operations principles to the healthcare sector. The HSOM field is recognized for its strong emphasis on decision-making, carefully considering trade-offs, professional discretion, and potential unintended consequences in processes and service delivery.

A central theme in ongoing and future research is leveraging data and analytics to drive decision-making, with a core focus on designing, overseeing, and refining organizational processes to efficiently deliver healthcare services. The increasing availability of vast amounts of data offers numerous opportunities to rigorously analyze and improve decision-making processes in healthcare, ultimately aiming for enhanced patient outcomes and experiences and more efficient workflows. Current projects focus on (i) how to use data routinely collected in Emergency Departments (ED) to assess primary care performance, (ii) under which conditions healthcare professionals trust predictions generated by data-driven technologies, and (iii) assessing implications for the management and organization of patient journeys.
