Mind Mapping

Mind map

What

A mind map is a visual representation of associations around a given topic.

Why

A mind map shows you the breadth and depth of a topic. It helps obtain an overview of the topic, identify patterns, create connections and decide on avenues for research and solutions.

How

  1. Decide which topic you want to create the mind map around.
  2. Consider things that are related to the topic and write them down. Explore themes, associated issues, causes, norms and values, needs, et cetera. Give free rein to associative thinking.
  3. Identify patterns and create connections. Cluster matters that appear to be connected in one way or another. Give each cluster a name and draw lines between connected clusters.
  4. Create a structure using the clusters and connections. Use different colours to bring out the structure visually.
