Mind map
What
A mind map is a visual representation of associations around a given topic.
Why
A mind map shows you the breadth and depth of a topic. It helps obtain an overview of the topic, identify patterns, create connections and decide on avenues for research and solutions.
How
- Decide which topic you want to create the mind map around.
- Consider things that are related to the topic and write them down. Explore themes, associated issues, causes, norms and values, needs, et cetera. Give free rein to associative thinking.
- Identify patterns and create connections. Cluster matters that appear to be connected in one way or another. Give each cluster a name and draw lines between connected clusters.
- Create a structure using the clusters and connections. Use different colours to bring out the structure visually.
