M.M.L. Kho will defend her PhD dissertation on Wednesday 4 October 2023, entitled: ’Prevention of Varicella Zoster and SARS-CoV-2 Disease in Kidney Transplant Recipients‘.
Below is a brief summary of the dissertation:
Patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD), patients on dialysis, and kidney transplant recipients have a high risk of severe morbidity and mortality from viral infections. Vaccination is an important means of preventing severe disease, but immunocompromised individuals are less able to mount an adequate immune response. This thesis focusses on the immunogenic effects of vaccination against two viruses, varicella zoster (VZV) and SARS-CoV-2, in patients with CKD, patients on dialysis and recipients of a kidney transplant.

The public defence will begin exactly at 15.30 hrs. The doors will be closed once the public defence starts, latecomers may be able to watch on the screen outside. There is no possibility of entrance during the first part of the ceremony. Due to the solemn nature of the ceremony, we recommend that you do not take children under the age of 6 to the first part of the ceremony.
