Matthew is the Erasmus University College managing director. He worked in university administration in the UK before joining EUC. His first role after graduating from the University of Kent with a degree in history, was at the British Museum in London. He worked at Queen Mary, University of London and, King’s College London before moving to the Netherlands. He now calls Rotterdam home and is happy to be part of a dynamic city that can still feel small and cosy.

Why do you work at EUC?

Erasmus University College provides an education that reflects the needs of a globalized and interconnected world. We prepare students to be creative thinkers and problems solvers who can communicate across the boundaries of language, cultures and, academic disciplines. I believe that this is the best preparation for an uncertain and ever-changing world. It is always a delight to see students grow in experience and confidence throughout their studies.

What makes a Liberal Arts & Sciences education distinct is also the emphasis we place on the personal as well as intellectual development of students. We build provide individuals with a perspective of social responsibility and prepare the to be democratic world citizens. I see this as the solution to many of the challenges the world faces and am passionate about the benefits of this kind of education.

Working at an organization based in a beautiful building in the heart of Rotterdam to achieve these goals, makes each day an exciting and enjoyable adventure. Everyone at EUC, students, academics and the professional services team are equally passionate about the mission of the College. Working with knowledgeable and enthusiastic colleagues in this shared purpose, unites the whole College, and never fails to inspire me.
